The Webb Group, which operates Choices
UK and Book Club Associates, has ceased
trading and appointed BDO as administrators. As a result, 58
employees have been made redundant, 15 redundancies at Webb Group
Ltd, 35 at cataloguer Webb Ivory (Burton) Ltd, four at Choices UK
Group Ltd and four at Book Club Associates Ltd. The administrator
is in the process of seeking a buyer for the assets of the
companies.
Last year, entertainment products marketer the Webb Group
acquired Book Club Associates (BCA) in a transaction funded by
Webb’s private-equity investor Endless. As well as selling direct
to consumers through its Razamataz,
Simply Entertainment and Choices UK brands, The
Webb Group also supplied home-entertainment products to retailers
including Wilkinson and
Next.
Luxury-apparel etailer Net-a-Porter is planning
to launch websites for childrenswear, homewares and cosmetics,
reports the Independent. According to the piece, the new
ventures could be named as Net-a-Bebe,
Net-a-Beauty and
Net-a-Maison.
The Telegraph reports on the news that Will
Adderley, executive deputy chairman of homewares chain
Dunelm, has sold £36 million worth of
Dunelm shares. Will Adderley is the son of Dunelm founders. The
business was set up in 1979 by Bill and Jean Adderley, who ran a
market stall in Leicester selling curtains.
