Pet supplies retailer Pets at Home has come first in a table of
the best large businesses to work for.
The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies list said no other company
scored better for questions about its managers and colleagues.
The table found that employees have more fun with colleagues than
workers at any other firm on the list, and are “excited
about where the organisation is going” (cited by 78
percent). Almost two-thirds of employees earn £15,000 or
less and while it is not a fortune, says the newspaper, workers
at only one other firm are more content with their pay and
benefits.
In the Best Small Companies to work for list, Naked Wines came
14th. Each of its 61 employees is a shareholder, with 10 percent
of the firm owned by the general staff.
Elsewhere in the table, AppliancesOnline came 4th in the overall
100 Best Companies list, commended for the way it treats staff.
It spends £1 million on social events, including trips to
the Grand National, the Bolton beer festival, and the Christmas
party, which last year was held under Concorde at Manchester
airport.
