Royal Mail confirms UK’s online shopping hotspots for Black Friday

Royal Mail today confirms the top ten towns and cities where the most online shopping took place on Black Friday 2015, Friday 27th November. Black Friday, the one day promotional sales event, is now regarded as the start of Christmas shopping season in the UK and represents a major boost to the retail shopping calendar.

1. Norwich

2. Dorchester

3. Exeter

4. Bournemouth

5. Swansea

6. Aberdeen

7. Torquay

8. Inverness

9. Taunton

10. Lancaster

The findings are based on analysis of items accepted into the Royal Mail network on Friday 27th November and Saturday 28th November. Items were accepted from online retailers and e-commerce businesses for delivery via the Royal Mail Tracked 24 and Royal Mail Tracked 48 services. Online purchases made on Black Friday will continue to be distributed by retailers and delivered by Royal Mail in the coming days.

Royal Mail has opened ten dedicated parcel sort centres, recruited an additional 19,000 temporary staff and increased its fleet by nearly 15 per cent, with 6,800 extra vehicles supporting the Christmas operation.

Nick Landon, Head of Royal Mail Parcels, said: “Last weekend a huge volume of online purchases were picked, packed and shipped by retailers around the country. And today, thousands of shoppers around the UK will be receiving their Black Friday purchases.

“Bargain hunters in Norwich top the list of this year’s biggest Black Friday online shoppers. We know there are more parcels still to come, but as of today more addresses in Norwich are set to welcome a Black Friday purchase than anywhere else in the UK.”
