Union recognition looms at UK Amazon DC

Union recognition looms at UK Amazon DC

GMB Union says that around 700 workers at Amazon’s Coventry distribution centre have joined it as members. The union says that this means it has reached the threshold – more than half of workers at the site – which should result in mandatory union recognition. GMB is also behind industrial action ballots at five other Amazon sites aiming to achieve union recognition for each of them.

If there is no agreement by Amazon in relation to the Coventry DC, GMB says it will commence with the statutory process through the Central Arbitration Committee. Amazon has ten days in which to respond and agree voluntary recognition.
