News roundup–Superdry, ASOS, JJB

In the first quarter to 29th July, Superdry’s parent company SuperGroup delivered a UK sales increase of 19.7 per cent to £40.2 million. On a like-for-like basis, sales were up 1.7 per cent despite the torrential rain softening demand for summer clothing. In a group statement, SuperGroup said that “solid sales performances from jackets, gilets and sweatshirts demonstrated that the broad assortment carried by Superdry stores offers a degree of protection against the adverse weather”.

Apparel retailer ASOS has launched a weekly magazine app called Fashion Up. Available for the iPhone and iPod touch, the app features the latest fashion trends and beauty how-to videos. Fashion Up is currently not supported on the iPad, with ASOS recommending that customers download its ASOS Magazine instead. An Android version is scheduled for release later this year.

From the Mail’s This is Money column: “TV shopping channel helped me sell 23,000 Ecoeggs in a day”.

Sportswear retailer Decathlon has ruled itself out of the bidding for JJB, reports the Financial Times. According to the piece, rival JD Sports is still in the running.
