Waitrose has sold its three stores in Bromley, Oadby and Wollaton to Lidl and has also announced the sale of a further store in Sandhurst to another party. It is now set to close stores in Marlow, Stevenage and at the Waterside British Airways headquarters in the Autumn.
“We haven’t taken this decision lightly but we have to do what’s right for the business as a whole,” commented Mark Gifford, Waitrose director of shop trade. “Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, we haven’t been able to find a way to make these shops profitable in the long term.”
