Word is percolating that Hilco may be poised to make an offer for Laura Ashley with a view to breaking it up. Laura Ashley’s homewares categories would, it is said, sit well within Homebase and give the DIY chain, which had been enjoying something of a renaissance until it was forced to close stores, an added USP. A deal will not be reached, however, in time to save upholstery manufacturer JDP Furniture Group from administration. It was a major supplier to Laura Ashley with a dedicated manufacturing unit for the retailer.
