Sports nutrition and supplements business Sports Supplements Ltd which trades as Bulk Powders has been hit with a six figure fine for misleading customers. There were 30 charges in all relating to breaches of labelling legislation and inaccurate claims for the amount of protein present in some of the products which rendered some of the statements made about the efficacy of the products inaccurate. Essex Trading Standards brought the prosecution under the Nutrition and Health Claims (England) Regulations 2007.
Bulk Powders which primarily sells direct to consumers online in the UK and overseas, as well as operating as a wholesale supplier, has enjoyed strong success. It employs around 150 people at its Colchester headquarters as well as an additional team of marketers in London.
Susan Barker of Essex County Council said: “Essex Trading Standards has an ongoing commitment to support residents who should feel confident that they can rely on the information provided in the form of food labels and commercial websites.”
