Amazon is increasing starting pay for frontline operations employees in the UK, with annual salaries set to rise to at least £31,408 from 27 September.
The increase of up to 5.6 per cent will take the minimum hourly rate to £15.10. In some locations, the rate will rise by 5.2 per cent to £16.10 an hour, equivalent to a minimum annual salary of £33,488.
Amazon says the change will apply across full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal frontline operations roles, benefiting tens of thousands of employees. It represents an 80p-an-hour increase over the past year and a 44 per cent increase in starting pay since 2022.
The announcement comes as Amazon continues to expand its UK operation. The company has committed to invest £40 billion in the UK between 2025 and 2027, with more than £15 billion already invested.
Alongside the pay increase, Amazon says employees will receive access to a 10 per cent discount on eligible groceries and everyday essentials bought through Amazon.co.uk from 1 October. Other benefits include private medical insurance, life insurance, income protection, free Prime membership, a company pension and support for skills development through its Career Choice programme.
The latest increase puts further distance between Amazon’s frontline pay and the statutory minimum wage, while reflecting the continuing competition among large retailers and logistics employers for warehouse and fulfilment staff.
