Women’s apparel and accessories retailer/cataloguer Nightingales
has been bought out of administration by JD Williams and Co Ltd,
part of the N Brown Group. The 30-year-old Nightingales, whose
customers are predominantly ABC1 females over 45 years old, fell
into administration on 11th October and purchased less than three
weeks later.
Fraser Gray and Peter Saville of Kroll Corporate Advisory & Restructuring were appointed as joint administrators to the Craven Arms, Shropshire-based business, which operates a mail order and online shopping arm as well as two retail outlets and 14 franchise stores. The Nightingales business entered into administration after “cash flow difficulties following a period of poor trading condition,” said a statement from Kroll. JD Williams paid £770,000 for the business, which it bought as a going concern.
At press time, Catalogue/e-business had heard that N Brown was planning to move employees from their Shropshire base to JD Williams’ facilities in Manchester, but that a consultation period had been put in place. Local media have expressed concern as 80 jobs remain on the line.
