News roundup—Farnell, Ocado, more

Full year revenues at components firm Premier
Farnell
declined by 10 percent to £795.3 million,
and underlying operating profit plunged 27 percent from
£88.8 million in fiscal 2008/9 to £72.7 million this
year. However, performance began to show improvement in the
fourth-quarter with sales and underlying operating profit
achieving year-on-year growth of 6 percent and 3.3 percent,
respectively. According to chief executive Harriet Green, group
sales are continuing their momentum-sales for February are up 15
percent on last year. The improvements are being attributed to
Farnell’s international expansion strategy and a focus on
maximising ecommerce opportunities.

Online groceries retailer Ocado has said it will
float this summer after the general election; it will use some of
the proceeds to build a second distribution centre, reports the

Telegraph
.

Shoppers buy environmentally friendly goods to impress their
friends and neighbours, rather than out of a genuine concern for
saving the planet, a new report has found. The Going Green to Be
Seen report, covered by the
Telegraph
, found that online-where we can be anonymous-we
stick to cheaper and not so eco-friendly options as we seek out
bargains.
