News roundup–JD Williams to buy Splendour and Slimma brands, The Hut buys HQ Hair, more


N Brown Group, via its subsidiary JD
Williams
, is to acquire the Slimma and
Splendour brands, and their associated
intellectual property, from Slimma plc. N Brown
already stocks Slimma products within its JD Williams and
Julipa titles. Splendour is a staple lingerie
brand within Figleaves and Simply
Be
. The transaction is conditional upon Slimma plc
changing its registered name to CDU plc, for which Slimma plc is
seeking shareholder approval.

Also on the acquisition trail is The Hut Group,
owner of Lookfantastic and
Mankind, which has bought collapsed beauty
products etailer HQ Hair. HQ Hair went into
administration on 17th January and its assets acquired by the Hut
the same day.

A hacker has brought the Lush website to its
knees, compromising the security of sensitive customer
information. The Lush website has been taken offline with a note
informing customers that “24 hour security monitoring has
shown us that we are still being targeted and there are
continuing attempts to re-enter.” Customers who have placed
orders with the business from 4th October 2010, are advised to
call their bank to ensure their accounts haven’t been
accessed.
Demonstrating its playful side too, Lush had this message to the
hacker: “If you are reading this, our web team would like
to say that your talents are formidable. We would like to offer
you a job–were it not for the fact that your morals are clearly
not compatible with ours or our customers”.

Cath Kidston has appointed Mark Saunders, former
Habitat chief executive, as its managing
director. He replaces Paul Spinks, who leaves to pursue other
opportunities.

The latest figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index
revealed that British consumers spent £6.8 billion online
during December-a 25 percent year-on-year increase. A total of
£58.8 billion was spent online in 2010, beating Index
expectations.

Rolawn, a direct seller of turf and topsoil,
appointed Yvonne Fogg as finance manager.

Miriam Lahage is moving back to London to take up the newly
created role of European general manager of fashion for
eBay. She was initially appointed in August to
lead the online marketplace’s US fashion business.
