Direct Golf UK boosted by online TV channel

Multichannel retailer Direct Golf UK witnessed a record start to
2012 with revenues soaring 21 percent to £11.3 million in
the first half thanks to four new stores and an online TV
platform, which helped online sales increase by 15 percent year
on year.

Launched in 2011, Direct Golf TV is designed to bring golfers
impartial video reviews for all the latest golfing equipment. To
date, Direct Golf UK has produced more than 300 online
videos.

Using an experienced production team that includes Sky Sports
presenter Sarah Stirk, trick-shot artist and presenter Jeremy
Dale, former Today’s Golfer equipment editor Carly Cummins, as
well as a host of PGA professionals including Tom Denby, Darren
Scholes and Jamie Donaldson, the channel boasts a range of golf
tips and drills from golf coaches as well as a comprehensive
guide to buying golf equipment.

Managing director Neil Bell says, “The new channel is
designed to improve the shopping experience for everyone at
Direct Golf UK. With the volume of equipment available on the
market today, golfers need as much assistance and advice as
possible. Our goal is to help golfers find the right equipment to
improve their game and buy with confidence.”

The British retailer also announced that it is on track to post
its third consecutive record year with profits 40 percent up on
2011. Commenting on the half-year results, chairman John Andrew
adds, “2011 was a record year for our business, with both
revenues and profits up, yet the start of 2012 indicates we’re on
course for another milestone in our 21st year of
business.”

In order to keep growing, the company has significantly invested
in developing the business, says Andrews. “In 2010, we set
out our aggressive growth plans and since then have gone from
strength to strength, adding nine new retail sites-taking us from
12 to 21 stores-and posted consecutive record financial
years.” It has plans to further expand its portfolio by
adding more stores in 2012 and beyond.
