Lands’ End ramps up European merchandising team

Casualwear cataloguer Lands’ End has announced plans to recruit a
European product director to oversee a team of 33 within the
merchandise and planning function. He or she will report into UK
managing director Sara Prowse and head up a team of 22
merchandisers, a head of planning and nine planners. The move
mirrors the successful model already in place at the company’s
Japanese operation.

The European merchandising team will be based at Lands’ End’s
Rutland offices, and will be responsible for selecting product
from the US range that is best suited to the European markets in
which Lands’ End operates. The new recruits will also work with
the US design teams to ensure the ranges reflect key European
trends, colours and fabrics.

The news follows an announcement from Lands’ End last September
that it was reducing its contact centre staff in the US by 29
percent. It also confirmed that 50 additional positions in the
rest of the US business are being cut, where there are
overlapping roles.
