Underlying profits at Mothercare rose to £37.1
million in the year to 28th March 2009 helped by like-for-like
sales growth of 1.4 per cent in the UK and 6 per cent
internationally. The maternity and nursery specialist’s
performance was also boosted by the benefits of the integration
of the Early Learning Centre and “very tight control
of costs,” said a company statement.
The direct business saw growth of 25.5 per cent with sales
reaching £107.3 million. Its online and phone sales (aka
direct in home) were up 24.9 per cent to £62.2 million
and “direct in store sales” at web-enabled shops
were up 26.3 per cent to £45.1 million.
Findel Education is moving to a new 55,000sq ft office
development in Hyde, Tameside. The new headquarters are
opposite the firm’s previous base on Ashton Road, reports
Crain’s Manchester Business.
