Good news from Laura Ashley: The fashion and homewares
cataloguer/retailer reported an 8.4 per cent rise in UK sales for
the 17 weeks ended 30th May, with like-for-like sales up 6.9
per cent. Catalogue and web sales grew by 11 per cent.
First-quarter sales at Kingfisher, the parent company
of DIY retailer B&Q and tools merchant Screwfix,
rose 9.6 per cent, with like-for-like sales down 1.7 per cent.
Sales at Screwfix fell 6 per cent, to £119 million for the 13
weeks ended 2nd May. But B&Q sales rose 4.6 per cent, to
£1.04 billion. What’s more, Kingfisher’s UK EBITDA rose 39
per cent, to £128 million, exceeding expectations.

Lingerie has launched a wholesale division.
