News roundup—2nd October 2009

Multititle mailer Flying Brands has moved
fulfilment for its Flying Flowers title from
Jersey to the UK, where it is being outsourced to distributor
Top Flora. The move is aimed at improving
quality and reducing customer complaints. The company’s results
will take a hit from the move, however, as it will not be
increasing its prices to reflect the addition of the VAT it will
now have to charge. In related news, Marie Myles will join Flying
Brands next month as sales and marketing director. She is
currently director of marketing consulting services at Experian.

The Telegraph speculates on the effect of a
possible Royal Mail strike on holiday post. In addition to
representatives from Royal Mail and the Communication Workers
Union, which is balloting its members regarding a national
strike, the article quotes Scotts & Co chief
exec Nigel Swabey.
