Supermarket Morrisons is to trial a home
shopping service next year. The last of the “big
four” supermarkets to move online, Morrisons will begin the
trial at an “undisclosed UK location” with a view for national
roll-out, reports the
Telegraph
.

Apparel and homewares retailer Laura Ashley saw
total UK retail sales rise 5 per cent to £121.6 million in
its first half, with like-for-like sales up 6.2 in the 26 weeks
to 31st July. Pretax profit, excluding exceptional gains,
rocketed from £100,000 in 2009 to £5.7 million during
the period. Ecommerce sales grew by 63 per cent to £15.4
million.

Argos is hiring fewer employees in the run up to
Christmas, writes the Guardian. According to the article, just two
years ago, Argos hired 20,000 temporary staff, “last year,
the figure was 12,000 staff working 12 hours a week on average.
This year, it will recruit 7,000 workers doing 5 per cent fewer
hours.”

ASOS.com, the fashion etailer, embarks on its
first-ever print advertising campaign this Sunday with an ad in
the Sunday Times’ Style Magazine. It will also take ads
in Heat, FHM, Cosmopolitan, and
Grazia.

Tesco has launched an iPhone app that allows customers
to order groceries on-the-go. The app enables users to log into
their grocery account and add forgotten items to their basket, or
start a new order from scratch, but checkout needs to be
completed on the phone or online.
