News roundup–Firebox profits, Lands’ End launches kidswear


Gifts and gadgets etailer Firebox announced
record profits for the year ending 31st January 2010. For the
first time in its 12-year history Firebox’s profits have
surpassed the £1 million mark. Revenue also rose, up 11.4
percent from £11.4 million in 2009 to £12.7 million
last year.

Maternity and nursery products cataloguer/retailer Mamas
& Papas
has signed a franchise deal with Lapin
House
, a Greek company specialising in luxury goods for
children and babies. The partnership will see Mamas & Papas open
10 stores and 17 concessions over the next five years within
Greece and Cyprus.

Norfolk Lavender, a Lavender farm, tourist
attraction, and mail order business saw turnover increase from
less than £1 million in 2008/09, to £1.6 million in the
last financial year. The business had fallen into administration
in December 2008, but was bought by local businessmen Ian and
Neil Williamson, who invested £750,000 into the business,
reports the
Eastern Daily Press
. As far as the mail order business is
concerned, the division turned over £300,000 last year. In
its heyday the mail order arm was worth £8 million.

Lands’ End
is adding childrenswear to its range. The new
product line will be available from the autumn.
