The Telegraph writes that the resolution
committee of failed Icelandic bank Landsbanki is starting sale
proceedings for frozen-food chain Iceland. Also
on the market is toy retailer Hamleys.

Tesco‘s incoming chief executive Philip Clarke
has appointed seven new people including to the executive
committee. The additions, which take effect when Clarke succeeds
Terry Leahy on 1st March, include chief operating office Bob
Robbings and a internet director Ken Towle. Bloomberg has more on the appointments.

Shop Direct has closed its call centre Newtown,
Powys with the loss of 180 jobs, reports the BBC. Shop Direct first announced the closure

Groceries etailer Ocado has launched a Pets
Corner mircosite where customers can find more than 600 lines of
pet supplies and use it as part of their weekly shop at the main
Ocado website.

In the fourth quarter, Amazon‘s international
segment sales, representing its UK, German, Japanese, French,
Chinese, and Italian sites, increased 26 percent to $5.74 billion
(£3.61 billion) compared with the same period in 2009. Net
sales at Amazon.com increased 40 percent to $34.20 billion
(£21.51 billion) in fiscal 2010. Operating income rose 25
percent to $1.41 billion (£886.6 million).

Not so happy news from the high street: for the Christmas 2010
trading period retailers reduced staff levels by 1.5 percent
compared with the previous year, they also cut working hours and
refused to offer overtime, reports the Guardian.
