Mother and baby specialist retailer Mothercare
is expected to announce that it is speeding up its store closure
programme. Mothercare set out plans to reduce its UK store
portfolio from 352 to 266 by March next year and has put over 150
staff at its head office into consultation as part of the
strategic review.

According to published reports British Retail Consortium director
general Stephen Robertson, formerly marketing director at
B&Q is to step down from his position in
December after a five year stint at the trade body.

Tile specialist Topps Tiles is set to announce a
2.5 per cent fall in total revenue to £86.9 million for the
26 weeks to March 31. According to widespread reports Topps Tiles
second quarter like-for-like sales are also expected to have
decreased by around 4.8 per cent.

Apparel trade magazine Drapers reports that UK department store
Debenhams is set to reenter the Russian market
with its first store opening since 2007. The new store will be
opening on September 1st in Moscow.
