Shop Direct, the parent company of

Very, may shed up to 160 jobs at it looks to
outsource IT jobs to third parties. Staff at its headquarters in
Speke were told of the move yesterday, writes the Liverpool Echo.

Drapers reports that James Bidwell is to
leave fashion brand Anthropologie after less
than two years in the job. The company is said to be undergoing a
“global restructuring” which makes Bidwell’s position
as European managing director redundant.

Asda is beefing up its direct division. The
supermarket will create 300 jobs at a home shopping centre in
north London as it seeks to increase its online capacity by 50
percent. The new picking centre is due to open in mid-August
serving homes within a 45-minute catchment area around
Enfield.

The Times reports that pretax profit at shoe
retailer Clarks is down 2 percent to £85.1
million, “because of an increased pension deficit”.
However revenues are up 4.5 percent from £1.12 billion to
£1.17 billion in the year ending January 2010. This month
sees chief executive Peter Bolliger retire. He will be succeeded
by Melissa Potter, a former managing director.
