QVC doubles storage capacity at distribution centre

To accommodate future growth and restructure its logistics
processes to one site for effective same-day despatch of goods,
TV and online home shopping merchant QVC has installed
eight-metre-high drive-in pallet racking for the storage of more
than 5,000 fast-moving and large-volume goods. This was the first
step in the installation of a 35-metre high-bay warehouse
extension to accommodate bulk storage materials and bring
external storage into one location, reducing transport and
offsite storage costs.

Working with SSI Schaefer on the project, QVC now has more than
29,000 storage locations housed in the high-bay warehouse, which
is designed to perform 200 storage and 200 retrieval operations
per hour. The warehouse can scale up to perform 300 retrieval
operations per hour.

Modernisation at QVC’s returns processing department-such as
introducing automated processes-has also helped the UK operation
of QVC reach the same efficiency level as its German and US
operations.
